TULE

TULE means REED, the town on the way from Oaxaca to Mitla was named like that because of the numerous reeds around. El Arbol del Tule is a really old tree but no-one agreed on the real age. On the engraved stone we can read that the tree is more than 2000 years old. It is also named "Tree of life" because you can see a lot of figures in the trunk.

This is a sacred place, which is also really calm and peaceful. According to Zapotec legends, it was planted on a sacred land, this idea is now reinforced by the fact that a church was constructed just next to the tree.
